When this book was barely a glimmer in my eye, my friend Mandy asked, "So, what's this book about anyway?" I rambled for a few minutes, saying a lot and yet very little. You've been there, right? Mandy asked again. I said, "It's about the fierce-ass women of the Bible and how damned fierce they are." Sadly, Fortress Press--those delightful, wise, and scintillating folks--thought Fierce-Ass Women was maybe a bit beyond the pale for the title. So I stole it for the website.
Here's the thing: the Bible is R-rated.
From the chapter on the Song of Songs, "It's all about violence and strong language and adult situations. It’s not for the faint of heart, because our lives are not for the faint of heart. The stories in it can speak to us on the level they do because they reflect our own violence and strong language and adult situations." So, yeah, there's swearing.
